Sealed basin means airtight lid with grommeted penetrations for the discharge line and the power cord, so the crawl vapor barrier can be terminated to it cleanly and moisture cannot flow up out of the pit into the sealed space.

Primary pump is a Zoeller M53 for standard scope, Liberty 257 as the alternate. Battery backup is a Wayne WSS30V or equivalent sealed lead-acid cabinet mounted above the flood plane on ledger cleats or a shelf bolted into the block wall — never on the crawl floor where it dies the first time the pit overflows. Both pumps discharge through 1-1/2-inch or 2-inch PVC to daylight where the exterior grade allows, or to a gravity-connected storm drain where permitted. Discharge line has a check valve to prevent backflow, insulated where it runs against cold block, and terminates well away from the foundation.
