Last spring I ran one in Wynfield off Robinson Church Rd — 2001 two-story, 3,400 SF, second-owner who had bought the house in 2018 and had just started renovating the downstairs guest bathroom above the crawl. Her plumber called from under the house on day one of demo and said he was not comfortable working down there until somebody looked at what was growing on the joists. Rim joist wood in the affected area got scrubbed and dried. Post-remediation moisture verification with the meter — all affected substrates back below 15 percent moisture content before we sign off. Day four is encapsulation over the remediated area to prevent recurrence — 20-mil ground liner, sealed vents, dehumidifier if not already installed, all the standard encapsulation elements that make the crawl inhospitable to recurrent growth.

Cabarrus County does not require a permit for mold remediation itself — no building permit, no inspection, no filings on the remediation work. The structural repair component (joist sistering, subfloor replacement) does require a Cabarrus County residential structural permit if the affected framing is more than incidental, and I file it through the Cabarrus County Building Inspections office in downtown Concord. Any electrical work associated with a dehumidifier install as part of the follow-up encapsulation is a separate electrical permit.
